Welcome to The Old White Cottage!
My name is Melanie and I'm a lucky wife and mother to 2 daughters. Five years ago, I was a full-time engineer. That all changed with my first pregnancy when I was unexpectedly told I could no longer work due to pre-eclampsia. After giving birth, I fully expected to return to work, but I didn't have the heart to put my colicky baby in daycare. Just when things were settling down, baby number 2 arrived. It wasn't my plan but I've been home ever since.

Blogging happened for me by accident. One day, I accidentally stumbled onto a home and garden blog ... then another and another and another. At the time, I had a 3 year-old and a 1-year-old and I was bored with the monotony of life at home. I know many women dream of staying home but I missed my professional life terribly and and I felt like I needed more.
Prior to having children, I loved to decorate and garden but between being a difficult pregnancy and being sleep-deprived with two bad sleepers in a row, I had I put that part of my life on hold. However, I was at the point where life had settled down (and I was getting some sleep!) so I thought, "Why not create a blog of my own?". Blogging also presented me with the opportunity to complete all the unfinished projects that had piled up and to document it at the same time. I created this blog as a diary to myself so it was a surprise to find friends out there who shared the same enthusiasm.
Blogging helped me find happiness in my home again and now life couldn't be better!
