I&#39;m no expert on these things. ;-) I just guessed based on oyster dishes I&#39;d seen in the past. I don&#39;t eat oysters and intended to use it for eggs. <br /><br />I was curious too so did a little poking around online. The term seems to be used interchangeably for this dish. However, I think you&#39;re correct that it is an egg plate because of its smaller size. Apparently, egg plates were derived from earlier made oyster plates! I had to comment because the dish you think is perfect for deviled eggs is the same dish my mother has been using for deviled eggs since she was married (it was a shower gift to her over 40 years ago).
