Laundry Room Progress - Phase I

Okay, I mentioned that I was going to have to do this project in stages just because of the sheer amount of stuff we have and the amount of work involved ... painting just about everything, flooring, organization, cabinetry, etc. ... but things are moving along.

So, here's one section that's nearly done. Before ....

And, After ...

I have to tell you, I'm loving the results, but I'm really not enjoying this project. Normally, I love painting rooms, decorating, and seeing it all come together but there's certainly been some "ick" factor since this is a basement and there are scary corners. I'm looking forward to being finished. I hope its not too long before I have more to share. I'm working on it!

Oh, and Katie from Le Beau Paon Victorien really made me laugh with a comment about her "Silence of the Lambs" basement. Katie, you're a brave girl. I'm such a chicken that I don't think I could have bought your house!

I'll be linking up to Metamorposis Monday and DIY Day. Have a good week!

You're doing a great job! I love how it's looking. You ARE making speedy progress. How much caffeine did this require? :)

Oh my your basement laundry room is pretty..I love the cheery yellow..I'm still stripping wallpaper (ick) and getting mine ready to paint..but it will definitely be yellow since it's such a happy color..and laundry doesn't make me happy. Great job...I know you will enjoy it when your finished!

Oh what a little paint and elbow grease will do, you have gone from ugly duckling to beautiful swan. I don't blame you for not wanting to get into those scary corners where spiders lurk. Great job.

Great job! We're tackling our laundry room next too. I love what you did. Ideally I'd love some front loading machines but until they die completely (both washer and dryer are over 25 years old, purchased at a garage sale 10 years ago!), I'm stuck with the same old, same old.

I can certainly identify with the "ick" factor and scary corners! I experienced some of those feelings at the new "house in Hooterville." It gave me the creeps at first. I was scared to be there by myself.

But your laundry room looks better already...and a whole lot less scary. Some cabinets like those are on "the list" for my laundry room too. Keep up the good work. You are seriously on your way to *de-ick-tifing*. :)

It is looking wonderful. We had a basement once that we redid everything...and trust me...I KNOW the ick factors!! But is wonderful when it is done!

Fantastic. You won't feel 'ick' about your basement once it is painted and the floor done - it will be so clean and fresh.

Hey, it's looking really good! Laundry rooms do take forever--we had to gut ours. Not fun.

It's looking great. I love the bright yellow paint. My basement is very dark and scary and everyone wonders why I hate laundry so!!!

I just found your blog, and can't get over how your cellar looks! Basements are what they are called in the midwest but here in Buffalo, they are cellars.... :) Saw your Buffalo Bills sign and wondered... are you from Buffalo?

i have to say the Buffalo Bills flag is missing the new pic! that was my fav part of the old room!! great job though!! :)

Yellow is a wonderful laundry room color. That is the color I chose, and it makes me smile every time I am washing clothes. You're doing an excellent job on redoing the room, even with the scary corners.

I think you should put up the Bills flag, it would finish the project.

Great job so far! I recently finished my laundry room redo and it actually makes the laundry thing an easier task...no joke! Way to tackle a "scary" space!

It looks great! It's nice to see projects like this with real homes. Our house is almost 100 years old and we did the same with ours in September. It's encouraging to see that not everyone has a picture perfect, new drywalled basement with 12 foot ceilings... yet, you can still make your space gorgeous. Love it!

Wow...great transformation!

It looks wonderful!!! Did you have to do any special prep work to lay the peel and stick tiles? I am looking to do the same thing but am a bit chicken. Love the yellow!

Melanie@The Old White Cottage said...

Thanks! No, I didn't do anything but clean the floor as best I could. I've laid this type of tile before over existing tile and never had a problem with it lifting.

Tonya said...

WOW!!!! This looks amazing so far! I'd love to know exactly what you've done to the floor!

Tonya said...

oh, i should have read through the comments to see you used peel and stick tile....love those things! i wondered if you'd painted it.
